About BasketStats
BasketStats is an advanced basketball analytics project focused on Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) competitions: Liga Endesa, Primera, Segunda and Tercera FEB and women's leagues. It transforms official box scores into comparable metrics, shot charts and rankings so any fan, player or coach can understand performance beyond basic numbers.
Data source
All data comes from real, public results and statistics from FEB competitions (game reports, standings and rosters). BasketStats is an independent project and is not affiliated with the FEB or any club; trademarks and logos belong to their respective owners.
Who is behind it
BasketStats is an independent project developed and maintained by a basketball and data analytics enthusiast. It is not a commercial outlet and receives no sponsorship: it was born from the idea of bringing to basketball the kind of advanced metrics that for years were only available for the NBA or the ACB league. All data processing, metric calculation and web design are original.
How metrics are calculated
Advanced metrics are derived game by game from individual and team statistics. We start from the official data in each game report (points, 2pt/3pt/free throw shots, rebounds, assists, etc.) and apply standard basketball analytics formulas, adapted to the information available in the FEB:
- eFG% — eFG% — effective field goal, weights 3-pointers higher than 2s. (FG + 0.5·3PM) / FGA.
- TS% — TS% — true shooting: scoring efficiency including 3s and free throws. PTS / (2·(FGA + 0.44·FTA)).
- USG% — USG% — percentage of team possessions used by the player while on court.
- PIE — PIE — Player Impact Estimate: player contribution over both teams' game totals.
- 4F — Four Factors — eFG%, TOV%, ORB% and FT Rate per 100 poss, with ORtg/DRtg.
- MV — Market value — estimate in € from production, efficiency, age, height and league level.
Reference percentages (league and teammates) are calculated as the average of the 'average player' in each scope, excluding those with fewer than 3 games to prevent small samples from distorting the comparison.
